Botox, Xeomin and Dysport

image68

What are Botox, Xeomin and Dysport?

These are all FDA approved wrinkle-relaxing injections (Neurotoxins). They all act at the level of the muscle cell to relax muscles. This treatment prevents the formation of wrinkles and smooths out existing wrinkles thereby restoring a youthful appearance to your skin.

What do Botox, Xeomin and Dysport treat?

This class of treatments can essentially be used on any muscle that needs to be relaxed to have a therapeutic effect.

Common aesthetic uses are:

  • forehead lines
  • frown lines
  • bunny lines on the bridge of the nose
  • crow’s feet around the eyes
  • dimpling of the chin
  • correction of a gummy smile
  • smoothing of neck bands
  • lifting the brow
  • correcting down-turning lips
  • treating a square jaw and for slimming down the face
  • treatment of hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating)
  • nonsurgical facelift when used in conjunction with dermal fillers and micro-needling with radio-frequency (Morpheus8)

At LA Wellness Boutique we strive to produce natural looking results which still maintains movement and expressions in the face. Depending on your preference, we can tailor to your needs.

How long does the session take?

On average 30 minutes. The exact duration would depend on the size of the areas being treated and if you desire using numbing creams prior to the treatment.

Are these treatments painful?

The injections are generally very well tolerated but we do give you the option of using medical grade numbing creams prior to receiving the treatments for added comfort.

How long does it take to see the effects?

It depends on the product that is used, but the full effect is seen by 2 weeks.

What is the downtime?

None

How many treatments are needed?

Results will be seen after one treatment but you may need a touch up appointment 2 weeks later to get the desired effects. Touch up treatments are not included as part of the initial treatment. The amount of product needed will depend on the area being treated.

How long do the effects of the treatments last?

Again this depends on the product used but it also depends on many personal factors like the rate of your metabolism, your hormone levels, how physically active you are and if you have had multiple prior such treatments. Generally the effects last 3-5 months.

Important before treatment instructions:

  • You should be in good overall health. No active viral/bacterial infections, no active cold sores and no active skin infections in the area to be treated.
  • This treatment is not approved for those that are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use Botox if you are allergic to eggs or any of its ingredients or if you suffer from any neurological disorders.
  • For 1 week prior to your treatment, avoid anti-inflammatory pain relievers (like advil, motrin), some supplements/vitamins (like fish oil, vitamin E, omerga-3-fatty acids, licorice, garlic, gingko, ginger, cayenne, flax seed oil, CoQ10) and alcohol thin the blood and can cause bruising with these procedures.
  • Minimize sun exposure as sunburned skin is difficult to treat.
  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, hair removal creams, facial scrubs/exfoliators and topical agents like Alpha Hydroxy Acids higher than 10%, Retinol, Retinol A for 1 week prior to your treatment.
  • If you have a history of cold sores (Perioral Herpes) the doctor will prescribe a medication for you to start the day before or the day of treatment to help prevent a flare up.
  • Always inform your clinician of all medications you are taking, including antibiotics, high blood pressure medication, Accutane, Coumadin, Plavix, or other blood thinners so that you can be advised if these need to be held prior to your treatment.
  • Given the most common side effect is bruising and swelling. It is NOT advisable to have injections less than 2 weeks before a big event.

Important after treatment instructions:

  • Do not massage, rub or apply pressure to the treated area for 6 hours after treatment.
  • Stay upright; do not lie down for at least 4 hours.
  • You may experience occasional tingling sensations.
  • An immediate headache is common especially, if it is your first botox treatment.
  • Makeup can be reapplied after treatment.
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and drinking alcohol for a few days following treatment.
  • Do not exercise for 24 hrs.
  • Apply topical Arnica Montana cream to any areas with redness, bruising or swelling.

Dermal Fillers

image69

What are Dermal Fillers?

As we age, we lose skin elasticity and have shrinkage, as well as downward displacement, of our facial fat pads, which were responsible for the youthful facial structure we once knew. This progressively results in sagging of our facial structures, change in the correct proportions of our facial anatomy and deep wrinkles and skin folds. The next thing we know, we have lost our prominent cheekbones and have developed a new structure, the dreaded jowel.

Dermal fillers are a jelly like substance, similar to human hyaluronic acid, that help to restore volume that is lost with aging, reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and folds, define certain areas of the face/body and rejuvenate your skin.

Like the neuromodulators, there are many types of dermal fillers, each with its own properties, which helps determine which is the correct filler for the area being treated. For example, for lip augmentation it is best to use a smoother and more hydrating product than a filler used to rebuild facial structures which need to be more firm and less malleable.

Commonly used hyaluronic acid fillers include Restylane, Belotero, Versa, Juvedern and Volume. Radiesse and Sculptra are non-hyaluronic acid fillers and should actually be in a class of their own as these products not only restore volume and augment areas that need it, they also stimulate the body to make its own collagen (which is the skins scaffolding) and therefore their effects are much longer than hyaluronic acid fillers.

What do Dermal Fillers treat?

  • lip hydration and/or plumping (ranging from very subtle to dramatic depending on your preference)
  • cheekbone lift and enhancement (gives a natural highlight and a contoured look to the face)
  • restoration of the temple regions (the hollow areas on either side of the eye that develop as we age or lose a lot of weight) which restores a youthful shape to your face and also gives a subtle lift to the brows)
  • treat the hollow areas under the eyes (tear troughs) which often results in shadowing (dark circles)
  • soften nasolabial folds (lines/folds on either side of the mouth toward the nose
  • smoothen marionette lines
  • reshaping of the nose (nonsurgical rhinoplasty)
  • complete mid-face restoration
  • chin definition
  • smooth vertical lip lines and chin wrinkles
  • earlobe fatigue (stretched earlobe) treatment
  • jawline straitening giving the face a slimmer appearance
  • buttock augmentation
  • hand rejuvenation
  • minimize scarring including acne scars
  • nonsurgical facelift when used in conjunction with neuromodulators, like botox, and micro-needling with radio-frequency (Morpheus8)

How long does the session take?

On average 60 minutes but this will depend on the number of areas being treated and an additional 30 minutes is recommended for numbing prior to the procedure.

Are these treatments painful?

We recommend the use of a numbing cream applied 30-45 minutes before the procedure to minimize pain. Most fillers that we use also have premixed lidocaine to give additional comfort. Since dermal fillers are thicker in consistency they do cause a temporary stretching sensation to the skin.

How long does it take to see the effects?

The effect of filler is immediate with full effect seen in 7 days.

What is the downtime?

Most patients are able to return to their normal activities the same day. For those prone to bruising and swelling, these should settle in 24-48 hours.

How many treatments are needed?

Usually one treatment unless we decide to build up slowly. The amount of product that will be needed will depend on the area being treated and the effect you would like to achieve.

How long do the effects of the treatments last?

Depending on the type of product used 6-12 months. Longer for the non-hyaluronic acid fillers (Radiesse and Sculptra). Many personal factors may also play a role in how long fillers last, like the rate of your metabolism, your hormone levels, how physically active you are and if you have had multiple prior such treatments.

Important before treatment instructions:

  • You should be in good overall health. No active viral/bacterial infections, no active cold sores and no active skin infections in the area to be treated.
  • This treatment is not approved for those that are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • For 1 week prior to your treatment, avoid anti-inflammatory pain relievers (like advil, motrin), some supplements/vitamins (like fish oil, vitamin E, omerga-3-fatty acids, licorice, garlic, gingko, ginger, cayenne, flax seed oil, CoQ10) and alcohol thin the blood and can cause bruising with these procedures.
  • Minimize sun exposure as sunburned skin is difficult to treat.
  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, hair removal creams, facial scrubs/exfoliators and topical agents like Alpha Hydroxy Acids higher than 10%, Retinol, Retinol A for 2 weeks prior to your treatment.

  • Immediately apply ice to the area treated with very light pressure to reduce swelling. Ice should be applied for 10-20 minutes and then removed for 10-20 minutes. This cycle can be continued throughout today.
  • Mild to moderate bruising is very common with fillers. Apply Topical and/or take oral Arnica Montana to help with any areas of bruising and/or swelling.
  • Staying well hydrated can improve results. Filler attracts and binds to water to add volume to the skin.
  • Avoid facials, peel, micro-dermabrasion, dental treatments, “face down” massages for two weeks. Also, sleep on your back for the next few nights.
  • If possible, avoid applying makeup after your filler treatment. Gentle cleansing and moisturizer is fine. You can start wearing makeup again the day after your treatment.
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and drinking alcohol for a few days following treatment.
  • Do not exercise for 24 hrs.
  • Avoid kissing, puckering, using a straw, and “lip plumpers”. This can displace the filler material placed in your lips and cause complications.
  • Avoid exposure to the sun and cold outdoor activities until redness from treatment disappears.
  • Do not restart Retinol or Retin-A products for 2 days after your treatment.
  • Schedule a follow up appointment 2 weeks after treatment.

Kybella

image71

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a non-invasive injectable treatment that uses a naturally occurring chemical called deoxycholic acid, to painlessly destroy fat cells permanently Most commonly used to treat a double chin, the treatment permanently removes fat from this area creating a more slender and youthful neck and face. This treatment works best for patients that are already at a healthy weight but who are struggling to loose fat in specific small areas as an alternative to liposuction.

What areas can Kybella treat?

- double chin treatment is the only on-label use for Kybella

- some off-label uses of Kybella to remove stubborn fat include:

  • jowls and lower jawline
  • bra bulges
  • armpit fat
  • muffin top
  • lower belly pooch
  • pubic area
  • flanks and back fat
  • lower buttocks folds
  • inner thighs
  • inner knees

How long does the session take?

Each session takes about 30 minutes but it also depends on the exact area that is being treated.

Are these treatments painful?

Pain from the injection and a temporary burning sensation are typical. We do recommend the use of a numbing cream applied 45 minutes before the procedure to minimize pain.

How long does it take to see the effects?

Initial results take 3-4 weeks to be seen but the full benefits can take 2-3 months to appear.

What is the downtime?

Swelling of the treatment area occurs secondary to an inflammatory response to the destruction of fat cells. This swelling usually lasts less than a week. Depending on the area being treated, patients can generally resume normal activities the day after the procedure.

How many treatments are needed?

A Kybella treatment involves several injection sessions (usually 2-6, depending on the patient’s needs) that are spaced four to eight weeks apart.

How long do the effects of the treatments last?

In patients that maintain a stable weight, the improvements are considered permanent as the fat will not return once dissolved. With weight gain there is a small possibility that fat cells will again accumulate.

Important before treatment instructions:

  • You should be in good overall health. No active viral/bacterial infections, no active cold sores and no active skin infections in the area to be treated.
  • This treatment is not approved for those that are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Make sure to inform your clinician if you have had any procedures in and around the area to be treated.
  • Always inform your clinician of all medications you are taking, including antibiotics, high blood pressure medication, Accutane, Coumadin, Plavix, or other blood thinners so that you can be advised if these need to be held prior to your treatment.
  • Given the most common side effect is swelling. It is NOT advisable to have Kybella treatments less than 2 weeks before a big event.

Important after treatment instructions:

  • Use ice packs on the treated areas a few times on the day of treatment to help minimize swelling and discomfort.
  • In some patients the treated areas will be red, swollen and possibly bruised for the first 2-7 days.
  • It is fine to resume all normal activities (including exercise) the day after treatment.
  • Take Tylenol if needed for discomfort after the treatment.
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and drinking alcohol for a few days following treatment.
  • If bruising occurs, using Topical and/or taking oral Arnica Montana will help to health this faster. Makeup can be used to hide any bruising.

What treatments are often done in combination with these treatments?

Skin tightening procedures, like Morpheus8 and Forma treatments, often further improve the results obtained by Kybella treatments.

Morpheus8 by Inmode

image72

What is Morpheus8?

A microneedling device that targets deeper layers than traditional microneedling devices and utilizes simultaneous radiofrequency energy to remodel the fat layer under the skin and stimulate the production of collagen resulting in reshaping and contouring of any area of the face and body.

Morpheus8 also has a skin resurfacing function, by use of more superficial microneedling, to improve the texture of the skin resulting in smoother, tighter skin with improvement of superficial scars and pore size.

A great advantage of this treatment is that it can be used in all skin types as it is not using laser. These deep and superficial treatments in combination are in essence a nonsurgical option to skin rejuvenation and when used in combination with PRP,  optimal results are achieved.

What does Morpheus8 treat?

  • wrinkles and skin sagging caused by aging
  • stretch marks
  • acne or other scars
  • discoloration and hyperpigmentation of skin
  • skin laxity (commonly used for jowls, turkey neck, brow drop caused by aging)
  • superficial fat remodeling (commonly used for treatment of double chin, Caesarian section pooch, remodeling the tissue around the knees, love handles, bra bulge, flabby arms)

How long does the session take?

On average 30 minutes but this will depend on the size and the number of areas being treated and an additional 45 minutes is recommended for numbing prior to the procedure.

Are these treatments painful?

As the procedure reaches deeper layers to allow for fat remodeling, we do recommend the use of a numbing cream applied 45 minutes before the procedure to minimize pain.

How long does it take to see the effects?

Visible results can be seen within a few days and they keep improving for the next three months after treatment.

What is the downtime?

Generally 2 days.

How many treatments are needed?

Typically 1-3 sessions depending on the area being treated and the severity of the problem. These are done 4-6 weeks apart.

How long do the effects of the treatments last?

The finals results will last for years but as many other treatments, will depend on multiple individual factors.

Important before treatment instructions:

  • You should be in good overall health. No active viral/bacterial infections, no active cold sores and no active skin infections in the area to be treated.
  • This treatment is not approved for those that are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Hydrate your skin - for 3 days prior to the procedure, make sure to drink 8 glasses of water a day and moisturize your skin morning and evening.

Important after treatment instructions:

  • Do not wash your face for 6 hours after your treatment. Thereafter, wash your face with water or a very mild cleanser for the first few days after treatment.
  • Expect to have skin redness and swelling for 1-3 days after your treatment. Depending on the exact treatment receive, you may also experience crusting and/or peeling of your skin which generally resolves by 7 days after treatment.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation).
  • Start to use a zinc oxide sunscreen (at least SPF 30) 24-48 hours after your treatment.
  • Keep your skin hydrated and moist through frequent and liberal water intake and use of a heavy moisturizer like Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Your regular skin regimen can be resumed only once the peeling process is complete.
  • Avoid any makeup to the treated area for 3 days.
  • Avoid exfoliating, facials, peels, micro-dermabrasion for 2 weeks.

Forma by Inmode

image73

What is Forma?

Forma is a skin and tissue remodeling technology that uses subdermal heating and radiofrequency to stimulate the formation of new collagen which will improve the skins elasticity and texture. It can be used on all skin types to give a lifting effect to the face and neck areas.

What does Forma treat?

  • wrinkles and sagging skin to give a smoother appearance and a lifted effect. Commonly treated areas include the forehead, brows, crow’s feet, under-eye bags, nasolabial folds, jowls and the neck.

  • prevention of skin aging and sagging when used in the 20-30 age range.

How long does the session take?

Forma can be used on multiple areas of the body and face. Depending on the treatment area, sessions can take anywhere from 30 - 60 minutes.

Are these treatments painful?

Forma is an essentially painless procedure. You may feel warmth on your skin which is usually very tolerable and often enjoyable.

How long does it take to see the effects?

There will be some immediate visual results and often this treatment is done the day before a big event to give an extra glow and plumping to the skin. But for more long-lasting effects, it depends on the area treated and the amount of sagging or deeper wrinkle to be treated, and therefore it may take several treatments to reach your desired goal.

What is the downtime?

There is no downtime. Right after the treatment, the skin may be slightly flushed in the treated area that goes away within a few hours, and you can return to your everyday activities immediately after the session.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments typically needed is 6-8 sessions, once weekly, but may vary depending on the individual. Individuals with thicker skin may require more sessions. Megasessions are longer treatment sessions  which may help reduce the total number of sessions needed.

How long do the effects of the treatments last?

There will be some immediate visual results but depending on the area treated and the amount of sagging or deeper wrinkle to be treated, it may take several treatments to reach your desired goal.

Important before treatment instructions:

  • You should be in good overall health. No active viral/bacterial infections, no active cold sores and no active skin infections in the area to be treated.
  • This treatment is not approved for those that are pregnant or breastfeeding

Important after treatment instructions:

The flushed appearance caused by the treatment will last a few hours. Moisturizer and/or makeup may be applied immediately after each treatment.

What treatments are often done in combination with these treatments?

Forma can be used in combination with most other laser treatments, facials, injectables and/or filler. Please speak to our office when considering combining Forma with other treatments.

Medical Grade Chemical Peels

image74

What are Medical Grade Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are acids of different strengths, used either alone or in combination, to improve the appearance of skin most commonly in the region of the face, neck and hands. The acid breaks down the tops layers of skin to expose smoother and brighter skin from below resulting in a luminous glow to the skin. Chemical peels that are acquired by a licensed physician from a compounding pharmacy are of medical grade and have more satisfactory results than widely available peels.

What do chemical peels treat?

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • skin discoloration (hyperpigmentation and melasma)
  • dull and dehydrated skin
  • acne or other scars
  • uneven skin texture and skin tone

How long does the session take?

On average the session takes 30-45 minutes.

Are these treatments painful?

If you’ve never experienced a chemical peel, you might be worried about the pain factor. But actually, chemical peels are painless. During the procedure, you might experience some mild tingling, but many of our guests describe it as a refreshing, invigorating feeling – definitely not painful. As your skin peels over the next several days, the shedding doesn’t hurt either.

How long does it take to see the effects?

It depends on the type of chemical peels used, but for the deeper peels there is often a noticable change after the first peel in 7-10 days.

What is the downtime?

Downtime varies depending on the type and strength of the chemical peel. Peeling generally starts 48-72 hours after the treatment is applied and lasts 5 days. The healing process may involve skin redness, swelling, crusting, dryness, stinging and sensitivity.

How many treatments are needed?

Typically, we’ll recommend that you start with a series of three chemical peels spaced about four weeks apart, but individuals are unique and so is their skin. The type, strength and number of chemical peels needed to achieve the desired goal will be different for everyone. A personalized treatment plan will be made once your needs are assessed.

How long do the effects of the treatments last?

Again, generally speaking, it is recommended that treatments be repeated every 3 to 4 weeks for a total of 3 treatments. After that, a maintenance peel plan will be recommended to maintain the beneficial effects. With the judicious use of sunscreen, the effects of chemical peels will last longer.

Important before treatment instructions:

  • You should be in good overall health. No active viral/bacterial infections, no active cold sores and no active skin infections in the area to be treated.
  • This treatment is not approved for those that are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • In some individuals who are prone to hyperpigmentation, it may be recommended that a month prior to their chemical peel treatment, a topical medication be used to prevent the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • Sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 should be applied daily.

Important after treatment instructions:

  • Keep the skin hydrated and moist through frequent and liberal water intake, use of a heavy moisturizer like Aquaphor Healing Ointment, and diligent use of sunscreen (at least SPF 30).
  • Avoid direct exposure to the sun as much as possible until peeling is complete. Similarly avoid hot baths, saunas and jacuzzi’s as this can irritate the skin further.
  • Activities that cause heavy sweating should be avoided for a few days after the treatment.
  • Your regular skin regimen can be resumed only once the peeling process is complete.
  • Avoid any makeup to the treated area until the peeling process is complete.
  • Never pull at the exfoliating skin or help it peel. Doing so may increase the healing time and may even lead to darkened pigment, redness, or scarring.
  • Do not restart any topical Retinol or Retin-A products for at least 3-4 weeks after your peeling is complete.

What treatments are often done in combination with these treatments?

Depending on the goal being reached, multiple different treatments may be combined with chemical peels. For example, for melasma and acne scarring, chemical peels are often done in conjunctions with microneedling with radio frequency (Morphues8).

How long does it take to see the effects?

Most patients will experience an initial reddening of the treated skin followed by a darkening of pigmented spots within 24 to 48 hours of their treatment. These dark spots will then flake off throughout the following week. Brighter, clearer, and smoother skin should appear within 7 days after treatment with the most noticeable results being seen about two weeks later.

What is the downtime?

There is typically little to no downtime with our Lumecca treatment. There may be some mild redness and swelling for 1-2 days after treatment, but since the skin surface is not broken, makeup may be applied within 24 hours of the treatment.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments typically varies from 2-5 sessions every 3-4 weeks. This will depend on your skin type and on the severity of the skin problem. Pigmented lesions usually require less sessions than vascular lesions.

How long do the effects of the treatments last?

With the use of recommended medical grade skin care products, daily sunscreen (at least SPF 30) and simple maintenance treatments, the results can last for years.

Important before treatment instructions:

  • You should be in good overall health. No active viral/bacterial infections, no active cold sores and no active skin infections in the area to be treated.
  • This treatment is not approved for those that are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • In some individuals who are prone to hyperpigmentation, it may be recommended that a month prior to their Lumecca treatment, a topical medication be used to prevent the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for 1 month prior to your Lumecca treatment and for the weeks following treatments. A sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 should be applied daily. Some patients chose to schedule their Lumecca treatments during months that they know they can avoid direct sun exposure.
  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, hair removal creams, facial scrubs/exfoliators and topical agents like Alpha Hydroxy Acids higher than 10%, Retinol, Retinol A for 2 weeks prior to your treatment.

Important after treatment instructions:

  • Expect to have skin redness initially which will then be followed by darkening of pigmented spots which will begin flaking off. Avoid peeling these off.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or tanning for at least 6 weeks following your Lumecca treatment.
  • Apply a sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30 daily for at least 6 weeks after your Lumecca treatment.
  • Keep well hydrated.
  • Moisturizers can be applied after treatments but do not restart any topical Retinol or Retin-A products for at least 4 weeks.
  • Makeup can be applied immediately after treatments as long as your skin is intact.
  • Avoid exfoliating, facials, peels, micro-dermabrasion for 2 weeks.

What treatments are often done in combination with these treatments?

Often done in conjunction with microneedling with RF (Morpheus8) and/or chemical peels to attempt to treat the root cause of the problem from multiple angles.

Vasculaze by Inmode

image76

What is Vasculaze?

Vasculaze is a laser treatment with a specially designed head to pinpoint the vein or vein network, making treatments precise and safe. The technology in the Vasculaze sends pulses of light onto the vein, which makes the vein slowly fade and disappear, preventing the need for unpleasant incisions and needles. It can treat a variety of vascular lesions involving any part of the body, but most commonly facial and leg veins. Varicose veins are larger veins that cannot be effectively treated by laser procedures and often require surgical intervention if indicated.

What does Vasculaze treat?
